Software developers can deploy the Authentic desktop application or browser plug-in as the user interface element of advanced XML-based applications or embed it in HTML pages, allowing non-technical users to access and edit information in a collaborative workflow environment. Authentic enables organizations to take advantage of the separation of structure and presentation provided by a native XML architecture without exposing content contributors to the complexity of XML syntax. User input is controlled via real-time validation using XML Schema or DTD, and presented as an e-Form based on stylesheet designs created in StyleVision. Authentic as a desktop application or browser plug-in is ideal for a variety of different deployment scenarios. For example, the desktop application includes a scripting environment, plug-in interface, and API for customization and integration into a variety of different applications, while the browser plug-in deploys the Authentic interface within Internet Explorer or Firefox and is useful for sharing content or creating and editing blogs and wikis in a WYSIWYG environment. Automation Server for XML PublishingAs an automation server, Authentic exposes programmable objects to other applications, enabling them to access its functionality and automate processes through the XMLSpy API. The XMLSpy API is a free component that ships with the product – it is not necessary to have XMLSpy installed to access it through Authentic.
A full overview of the XMLSpy API object model and processes is available in the Authentic Desktop Programmers’ Reference. Customizing XML PublishingAlso through the XMLSpy API, Authentic Desktop provides access to a comprehensive scripting environment that enables developers to modify and add functionality to the Authentic interface. Scripting projects can be assigned to specific Authentic projects, exposing end users to forms, event handlers, and macros directly from within the Authentic interface. Authentic’s scripting environment supports JavaScript and VBScript.
ActiveX PluginAuthentic functionality can easily be embedded in other applications as an ActiveX control or widget. This enables you to deploy Authentic’s dynamic e-Forms for XML and database content management, allowing you to develop all of your form controls using one centralized COM container, rather than having to build a design from a combination of disparate components. Deployment SupportTo ease deployment of the Authentic browser plug-in, Altova provides an ASP.NET Server Control that completely integrates with Visual Studio and allows you to simply drag and drop Authentic on to ASP.NET Web forms. In addition, to facilitate editing and management of XML-based content in Microsoft Content Management Server (CMS), Altova provides a CMS Placeholder Control that completely integrates with CMS and allows you to simply drag and drop Authentic on to your templates.
